AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State gymnastics program made another addition for 2022 with the signing of Rachel Wilke, the Cyclones announced on Tuesday. Wilke is the fourth announced newcomer for 2022, joining the previously announced Madeline Crosse, Hannah Loyim and Sydney Saturnino.
"Our team is very excited to welcome Rachel to our Cyclone family," associate head coach/recruiting coordinator Nilson Medeiros Savage said. "Rachel is a well-rounded student-athlete and she will be a tremendous addition to our program. Her work ethic and dedication to her academic and athletics will coincide with our values. Rachel will make an immediate impact on our floor and bars lineups."
"The team energy and the overall bond was the reason I chose Iowa State," Wilke said. "The coaching staff motivated me and made me feel confident in my potential."
Wilke joins the Cyclones from East Rochester, New York and has been a Level 10 gymnast the last three years at the Rochester Gymnastics Academy under coaches Julia and Barry Cross. She has been with Rochester Gymnastics Academy since she was 18 months old. She qualified for the 2018 and 2019 Junior Olympic Nationals Championships in the all-around, earning a fourth place finish on floor and eighth on vault in 2019. She was a qualifier for the 2010 JO National Championships, which were cancelled due to the pandemic.
While the pandemic limited competition in 2020, Wilke still impressed, picking up a pair of all-around first place finishes at the Metroplex Challenge and Classic Rock Invitational and five individual-event first place efforts.
