AMES, Iowa. – The Iowa State swimming and diving team (1-0, 0-0 Big 12) takes on South Dakota State (1-1, 0-0 Summit) Friday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m. and South Dakota (1-0, 0-0 Summit) Saturday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. The Cyclones begin their road trip in Brookings, S.D. at the Marshall Center Pool and end in Vermillion, S.D. at the DakotaDome Pool.Â
THE OPPONENT- South Dakota State
Iowa State holds the overall series advantage 11-0 against SDSU. The last meeting in 2018 featured a Cyclone win, 190.5-81.5.Â
South Dakota State picked up a victory against Augustana and a loss to Nebraska this season. Against Augustana, SDSU broke two pool records in the 50 free (23.92) and the 200 back (2:05.71). Elisabeth Timmer earned Summit League Swimmer of the Week honors in part by breaking the 50 free pool record that stood for 12 years.Â
THE OPPONENT- South DakotaÂ
The Cyclones and Coyotes share a series record of 12-0 in favor of the Cyclones. The teams last met in 2019 with the Cyclones winning by a score of 190.5-81.5, the third-largest margin of victory against the Jackrabbits. This season, South Dakota drew up the win against Minnesota State where they took 13 of 16 event victories. The Coyotes broke three school records, the 200 free relay, 50 free and the 100 butterfly, all in short course meters. Also in the win, Naomi Bingham dove to 261.23 on the one-meter, good to earn Summit League Dive of the Week honors.Â

Sophomore Joscelyn Buss set a new three-meter PR of 276.08, topping her old PR by a score of 23.63. The score also came within 3.92 of tallying a Zone cut. Swimmers clocked in numerous early season times bettering previous seasons, including Carley Caughron's 50 free (24.07) and Brinley Horras' 500 free time (5:02.52).
WHAT TO WATCH FOR- Diving
Iowa State divers are off to a hot start as Buss posted her first collegiate top score in an event and newcomer Lauren Kimball made strides in her first collegiate competition on the one- and three-meter. Junior Jayna Misra is back for a healthy season also ready to contribute.Â
ON DECK- Nebraska
The Cyclones return home Saturday, Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. for the first home dual of the season. Admission to Beyer Pool is free and open to the public.Â
