VICTORIA, British Columbia – Iowa State women's basketball redshirt freshman Izzi Zingaro was named to Canada Basketball's U19 Team for the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup on Friday.
Zingaro was originally a member of the 2021 signing class, but joined the Cyclones a semester early in January. Zingaro, a native of Bolton, Ontario, Canada, appeared in three games for the Cyclones in the 2020-21 campaign. She is no stranger to Canada Basketball, having competed on numerous occasions with Canada Basketball. She finished fifth at the U17 National Championship after competing with Team Ontario.
"It is a great honor for Izzi to be selected to play for Canada in the U19 world championships," head coach Bill Fennelly said. "She is another Iowa State player to represent Canada on a world stage."
The FIBA U19 Basketball Women's World Cup 2021 is scheduled for August 7-15, 2021 in Debrecen, Hungary and fans in Canada can catch all the action streaming live on FIBA YouTube.
The sixteen participating teams in the FIBA U19 Basketball Women's World Cup 2021 have been divided into four groups (A, B, C, and D) of four teams each. Each team will play against all other teams in its own group for a total of 3 games for each participating team.
Canada is in Group D and will face Japan on August 7 at 7:00 a.m. CT, the Czech Republic on August 8 at 4:00 a.m., and Mali on August 10 at 4:00 a.m.
