BOSTON, Mass. – Iowa State kicked off the 2022-23 indoor track and field season with the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Saturday at the BU Track and Tennis Center. Chad Johnson highlighted the meet as he put his name at No. 3 on the ISU indoor all-time performance list with his finish in the 5,000-meter run.
Johnson posted a commanding time of 13:33.15, topping his previous indoor personal record set last season of 13:57.25. The senior trimmed off nearly 25 seconds from his best time to place 21st in the event. The mark bests the previous third-ranked time of 13:36.64 set in 1991. Johnson's race included eight of the top-10 runners from this year's NCAA Men's Cross County Championships.
Ashley Tutt ran among five of the top-10 finishers in the 2022 NCAA Women's Cross Country Championships and finalized a time of 16:30.81. The senior finished 67th overall and was the 52nd collegiate runner to cross the line.
