AMES, Iowa - Oklahoma State (14-15, 7-10 Big 12) won a defensive battle over Iowa State (20-10, 7-10 Big 12), 53-36 Wednesday in Hilton Coliseum in the final home game of the season.
Iowa State shot a season-low 28 percent from the field and connected on only 2-of-17 shots from 3-point range in the loss.
A 12-minute stretch with one field goal in the second half doomed the Cyclones.
Izaiah Brockington led the Cyclones with 13 points and Tyrese Hunter added 12 points and three assists. Avery Anderson III paced the Cowboys with 12 points.
Oklahoma State built a 17-9 lead through the first 10 minutes, as the Cyclones struggled to score and committed six early turnovers.
The first half was a slugfest, as OSU led 22-20 at the break after Brockington buried a jumper in the final seconds. ISU was 1-of-10 but from downtown, but the Cowboys had 10 first-half turnovers.
The lids remained on the basket in the second half too. OSU briefly took a six-point lead, but then went nearly six minutes without scoring. However, the Cyclones only managed to tie the game at 30-30 during that span.
A 3-pointer by Rondel Walker put the Cowboys up 41-33 with 7:42 remaining in the contest, as the Cyclones continued to misfire.
The lead grew to 14 points (47-33) with 3:35, as ISU had a 12-minute span with just one field goal to allow the Cowboys to take control.
