David Carr Named NWCA Scholar All-American

MANHEIM, Pa. – Iowa State redshirt junior David Carr has been named a scholar All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).

In order to qualify for the team, an individual must meet one of the following requirements: Must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA and earned All American honors in the same academic year; Must have a 3.2 cumulative GPA and have been a NCAA National tournament qualifier in the same academic year; Must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA and Must have won 60% of their total matches in at least 60% of the team's schedule; or must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA and been a participant at the conference qualifying tournament.

This marks the second time Carr has received the award, as he also earned it in 2020. The three-time All-American, Carr is also a three-time Academic All-Big 12 selection, having been named to the first team this year.

Carr placed third at the NCAA National Championships at 157 pounds, as he finished the year with a 28-1 record. The three-time defending Big 12 champion takes a 66-2 record into his senior year next season.
