09.15.2022 | Wrestling
AMES, Iowa – Iowa State's David Carr will compete in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Star Classic presented by Cliff Keen on Nov. 22 in Austin, Texas.
Carr will square off with Princeton's Quincy Monday in a highly-anticipated 165-pound bout.
Carr, a 2021 NCAA Champion and 2022 third-place finisher at 157 pounds, brings a career mark of 66-2 into the 2022-23 campaign. Monday was the national runner-up in Carr's weight class last season and is a two-time All-American.
This will be the first clash between Carr and Monday on the mat, but their fathers, Nate Carr and Kenny Monday, were rivals in their college days. Nate, a three-time national champion for the Cyclones in the early 1980s, defeated Kenny in overtime for two of his titles. Nate went on to win a 68kg bronze medal at the 1988 Olympics while Kenny won gold at 74kg.
The NWCA All-Star Classic is back after a four-year hiatus and includes five NCAA Champions on the card. In addition, two women's bouts are on the card with additional matches yet to be confirmed.
The event will be streamed live on FloWrestling.
