AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State swimming and diving team (4-2, 0-1 Big 12) will head to Texas for a pair of dual meets against TCU (2-5, 0-0 Big 12) and North Texas (3-1, 0-0 USA Conference) on Friday and Saturday, respectively. The Cyclones and the Horned Frogs will meet on Friday at Nolan Catholic High School at 6 p.m. Saturday's competition against North Texas begins at 1 p.m. in the Pohl Recreation Center & PEB Natatorium.
THE OPPONENT- TCU
Iowa State holds the series advantage with a record of 5-1-1. Last season's meeting against the Horned Frogs landed Iowa State a victory with a score of 173-161. The last lone loss came in the 2013-14 season. This season, TCU's swimmers and divers have picked up first- and seventh-place finishes in three invitationals in addition to duals.
THE OPPONENT- North Texas
Iowa State holds an overall record against the Mean Green of 1-0, last meeting in 2020. North Texas recently topped Tulane in a triple dual at SMU by 186-161. UNT has also scored a win over New Mexico, UIW, and Little Rock this season.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR- Freestyle and Diving Events
Brinley Horras was a first-place and second-place finisher in the 1000 free and 500 free, while Madison Rundell and Corinne Guist secured a top-three ranking in those events. Ashley Bengtson placed third in the 200 free while recording a time of 1:54.04. Joscelyn Buss (1st, 291.50) and Kate Mitchell (2nd, 280.45) each recorded Zone-qualifying scores for their 3-meter performances. This is Buss' sixth Zone cut of the season and Mitchell's first.
ON DECK- Kansas
The Cyclones will travel to Lawrence, Kansas to compete in a back-to-back meet against Kansas on Feb. 3 and Feb. 4 starting at 6 p.m.
