HONOLULU, Hawai'i – Iowa State opened the spring season at the Weinman Foundation Invitational Thursday afternoon. The Cyclones faced off against opponents from No. 14 Southern Cal. Although these results will count towards the individual records, the match does not count in Iowa State's dual match records for this spring.
Thasaporn Naklo and Ange Oby Kajuru each picked up impressive victories against two of Southern Cal's ranked singles players.
Naklo earned a team-leading 17th victory against a ranked opponent after defeating No. 96 Naomi Cheong 6-3, 6-4. Kajuru also took care of business winning her match against No. 83 ranked Emma Charney, 6-3, 6-1.
The other two ranked singles players for the Cyclones also won their matches.
No. 80 Anna Supapitch Kuearum came out on top against McKenna Koenig, 6-4, 6-3 and No. 114 Sofia Cabezas defeated Sloane Morra, 6-3, 6-1.
Action will pick back up again tomorrow as head coach Boomer Saia and his team will go head-to-head with Washington State.
