AMES, Iowa – Iowa State topped Truman State in exhibition Wednesday night with a 20-point victory of 88-68. Four Cyclones scored in double figures while two solidified double-doubles.
The Cyclones, without returners Emily Ryan and Nyamer Diew, had a burst of scoring in the second quarter and never looked back to seal the victory. Kelsey Joens led the game with a 20-point performance, totaling 20 on 6-of-8 shooting from the field and making five triples on just seven attempts. Addy Brown (16), Audi Crooks (14), Jalynn Bristow (10) joined Joens to make for four in double-figure scoring.
Bristow and Crooks notched double-doubles, grabbing 12 and 11 rebounds, respectively.
How it Happened
Brown missed the opening shot but capitalized off her own rebound to put the Cyclones on the board first. With Truman State up 7-2, ISU then retook the lead with a 3-pointer by Arianna Jackson to go up 9-7 midway through the first. At the end of the quarter, Iowa State held the lead at 15-12.
Iowa State began to stretch a lead on a 17-0 run featuring back-to-back triples by Joens as ISU pulled ahead 34-15. The Cyclones held the Bulldogs scoreless for nearly five minutes and made 11 points off five Truman State turnovers during the scoring run. After two complete quarters, Iowa State led 38-28.
Brown and Joens drained shots from deep to begin the second half hot. Brown then hit another from beyond the 3-point line with 5:55 on the clock to put the score at 49-35. Joens also remained dominant, making her fourth 3-pointer on only six attempts with just over three minutes to go in the third. Crooks followed to muscle in the layup to join Joens and Brown in double figures as the Cyclones went on to take a 67-45 lead to the fourth.
The Cyclones continued to control the game as Brown totaled ISU's ninth shot from beyond the arc, keeping ISU's advantage to 20 points (74-54). Jackson made the 10th triple with 4:09 left to play, making the scoreboard read 79-59. Iowa State ended the game ahead by 20 points with the final score of 88-68.
Top Performances
Kelsey Joens put up a strong performance of 20 points in her first outing as a Cyclone, shooting at 75 percent while also adding three rebounds, two assists and a steal. Addy Brown totaled 16 points including three 3-pointers, while notching eight rebounds, a block and a steal.
Audi Crooks also had a dominant night totaling 14 points (6-of-10 shooting) and seven defensive and four offensive rebounds. Jalynn Bristow notched her double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds (nine defensive, three offensive).
