AMES, Iowa – Three Cyclones received All-Big 12 honors from the Associated Press, the organization announced Friday. T.J. Tampa and Jeremiah Cooper were named AP All-Big 12 First Team while Beau Freyler was named to the second team.
T.J. Tampa – First Team, CB
Tampa, also an All-Big 12 First Team selection by the league's head coaches, is one of the nation's top lockdown cornerbacks. The St. Petersburg, Fla. native has allowed only one touchdown in 414 coverage snaps this season. He has two interceptions and seven pass breakups on the year. Tampa is sixth on the team with 44 tackles, including three for a loss.
Jeremiah Cooper – First Team, S
Cooper, an All-Big 12 First Team selection by the conference office, burst onto the scene to begin his sophomore season with two interceptions in the opener against UNI. The El Paso, Texas native is fifth nationally and second in the Big 12 with five interceptions despite missing two games due to injury. Cooper has 41 tackles this season, including 1.5 for a loss. He's allowed just one touchdown in 331 coverage snaps.
Beau Freyler – Second Team, S
Freyler, who was an All-Big 12 honorable mention by the league, was Iowa State's leading tackler in eight of 12 games during the regular season. He logged four games with 10-plus tackles and capped the year with a 15-tackle performance, including 13 solo stops, at No. 19 Kansas State. The Colorado Springs, Colo. native was seventh in the conference with 96 tackles on the season and had three interceptions, two of which came in the red zone in a win against TCU.
