AMES, Iowa – Iowa State closed out its season at the Last Chance Open Sunday inside the Lied Rec Center. Nine Cyclones placed in the top four of their brackets, including four champions.
Julien Broderson (174), Cam Robinson (157), Manny Rojas (165) and Caleb Helgeson (184) all won their respective brackets.
Broderson bolstered his season RPI with a 3-0 day against Division I opponents. The Cyclone won by tech fall over Lindenwood's Kaden Charboneau, 17-2, to start the day. Broderson then earned a 5-0 decision against Caden Ernd (Illinois) and an 8-4 decision over Graham Calhoun (Wisconsin).
Robinson won the 157-pound bracket with a 2-0 day. The junior defeated Blaine Brenner (Nebraska), 13-6, in the semifinals before handling business against Tanner Peake (Davidson), 11-4, in the finals.
Rojas won his semifinal match, 5-3, against Davidson's Bryce Sanderlin before knocking off teammate Andrew Huddleston in the finals, 9-4.
Helgeson's finals match came down to the wire, but the Cyclone capped a 3-0 day with an 11-9 win in SV-1 over Nebraska's Brandyn Van Tassell.
