Iowa State swimming and diving (2-1, 0-0 Big 12) swims its fourth dual of the season on Friday night, heading back to Iowa City to face off with the Iowa Hawkeyes (2-1, 1-1 Big Ten).
THE OPPONENT – Iowa
The Cyclones are set to face the Hawkeyes in the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series matchup. The two teams previously competed in November at the Hawkeye Invitational, where Iowa finished fifth.
Iowa has two wins on the season, beating UNI and Nebraska and taking a loss from No. 23 Minnesota.
LAST TIME OUT – Hawkeye Invite
The Cyclones competed against strong teams at the Hawkeye Invite in November, including Nebraska, Arkansas, San Diego State, Iowa, and others. Iowa State finished eighth with over 30 final times across the three-day competition.
Winter Craig placed the highest for the Cyclones, earning a third-place spot in the 200 butterfly. She also placed 13th in the 100 fly, earning a personal best of 55.09.
Sophomore Emma Kuhn swam strong for the Cyclones, notching a personal best in the 200 backstroke and earning a spot on the Top 10 all-time performer's list as the ninth best.
Mallory Miller found herself within the top 10 performer's list twice in both the 200 IM and 400 IM, both representing the 10th best spot. Miller swam for personal bests in both events.
Kate Mitchell qualified for NCAA Zone Diving Qualifiers in all three of her events; 1-meter, 3-meter and platform.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR - Butterfly
Craig, Sophie Schmitz, Miray Abay and Miller all qualified for finals and placed in the top 20 at the Hawkeye Invite, dominating the 200 fly event.
In the 100 fly, Carley Caughron and Craig both advanced to the finals at the invite, earning crucial points for the Cyclones and aiming for even stronger performances in upcoming meets.
The Cyclones will look for another top finish in the fly events this Friday.
