AMES, Iowa - Keshon Gilbert is the Cyclone Club Athlete of the Week after leading the Iowa State men's basketball team to its fifth Big 12 Championship in the last 11 seasons.
Gilbert averaged 16.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 3.7 steals and shot 50 percent from beyond the arc en route to being named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
The junior guard led the way for the Cyclone defense against Kansas State, recording a career-high six steals, which also tied an ISU conference tournament record. He dished out five assists to go along with 12 points in the quarterfinal matchup.
The St. Louis native scored a game-high 20 points in the semifinal win against Baylor, while also flirting with a triple-double with seven assists and seven rebounds as well as two steals.
As the Cyclones cruised to a Big 12 title over No. 1 Houston with their stifling defense, Gilbert played a well-rounded game, posting 16 points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals.Â
Iowa State now heads to the NCAA tournament as the No. 2 seed in the East region, where it will play the Summit League champions South Dakota State. The Cyclones open their tournament in Omaha on Thursday, March 21 at 6:35 p.m.
