KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Three Cyclones wrestled in the medal rounds Friday morning at the NCAA Championships. Anthony Echemendia placed fifth at 141 pounds, Evan Frost finished in sixth place at 133 pounds and Casey Swiderski placed seventh at 149 pounds.
Frost and Swiderski, both seeded eighth in their respective brackets, wrestled above their seed in the tournament while Echemendia wrestled to his No. 5 seed.
Frost is Iowa State's first 133-pound All-American since Earl Hall placed seventh in 2016. Echemendia is the first Cyclone 141-pounder to receive All-America honors at the NCAA Championships since Nick Gallick in 2009. Swiderski is just the third Cyclone in program history to All-American at the tournament at 149 pounds and first since Jarrett Degen in 2019.
Teams are still jockeying for position in the team race with one session remaining in the tournament. Iowa State sits in fifth place with 64.5 points behind Penn State (155.5), Michigan (71.0), Cornell (68.5) and Iowa (67.0). Several other teams are hot on ISU's heels, however.

In the 149-pound seventh-place match, Swiderski's ankle pick was firing on all cylinders on the way to a 13-point first period against Rider's Quinn Kinner. A late takedown and near fall gave the Cyclones a bonus point as Swiderski locked up a 19-8 major decision.
At 141 pounds, it was a Cy-Hawk clash between No. 5 Echemendia and No. 3 Real Woods in the consolation semifinals. Woods registered the only takedown of the match off a throw attempt from Echemendia. The Cyclone would later accept a medical forfeit from North Carolina's Lachlan McNeil for fifth place.
Frost dropped his consolation semifinal match against Lehigh's No. 2 Ryan Crookham, 4-1, before falling in the fifth-place bout to Michigan's No. 5 Dylan Ragusin, 17-6.
