Spring Football: Quarterbacks, Tight Ends & Safeties

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State's new quarterbacks coach Jake Waters isn't new to the Cyclone football program, though he is one of the newest position coaches on the staff.
Waters has been a member of the staff for four seasons, spending the 2017 season as a graduate assistant before three seasons at UTEP as wide receivers coach. He returned to ISU in 2021 as a quality control coach and this offseason was promoted to coach the QBs.
On the defensive side of the ball, Deon Broomfield is in his fourth season as safeties coach. His position group returns three of the Big 12's best in Jeremiah Cooper, Beau Freyler and Malik Verdon. In 2023, the safeties combined for 13 interceptions, including five from Cooper and two from Verdon.
Tight ends Stevo Klotz and Benjamin Brahmer also met with the media Monday. Klotz was an all-conference selection at the fullback position, while Brahmer was a Freshman All-American after making 28 receptions, including two for touchdowns.
