AMES, Iowa – Iowa State has a new look in the running back and linebacker rooms this spring, but the majority of the key players in those positions return.
Tyler Roehl joins the Iowa State coaching staff as assistant head coach in charge of the running backs. The West Fargo, North Dakota, native has a championship pedigree, having won seven FCS national titles as a player and coach for the Bison.
Roehl inherits a talented, but young, running backs room led by sophomores Abu Sama III and Carson Hansen, who each played a significant role as true freshman a season ago.
On the defensive side, linebacker Colby Kratch returns to Iowa State after spending last season at North Texas. Prior to UNT, Kratch spent six seasons at Iowa State as a member of Campbell's coaching staff. He replaces Tyson Veidt, who left to become defensive coordinator at Cincinnati.
Sophomore Jack Sadowsky V and Will McLaughlin return after starting all 13 games for the Cyclones a season ago.
