AMES, Iowa – Iowa State head wrestling coach Kevin Dresser has added former Michigan State 184-pounder Layne Malczewski to his staff as a graduate assistant for the 2024-25 season.
"We are excited to add Layne to our program," Dresser said. "I was very impressed with his energy and positive outlook on this opportunity throughout the hiring process. Layne will be a great asset in our room with our young upper weights and we can't wait for him to get to work. Welcome to Ames, Layne!"
Malczewski, a five-time NCAA Qualifier for Michigan State, compiled a 104-49 record in five seasons with the Spartans. His 104 victories rank 19th in MSU history while his 29 career falls rank eighth in program history.
In 2023-24, Malczewski tallied a 15-10 overall record, including a 9-3 mark in dual action, and placed seventh at the Big Ten Championships. He was the No. 23 seed at the NCAA Championships and upset North Carolina State's No. 10 Dylan Fishback in the first round.
The Macomb, Mich. native was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American.
Malczewski earned his bachelor's degree in human capital and society from Michigan State in 2022.
