AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team will be traveling to Fort Collins, Colorado this weekend to compete in the Jon Messick Invitational, hosted by Colorado State. This will be the second-straight year the Cyclones will be participating in the tournament.
Coach Said It
"Going to Fort Collins is important this year as we have all four altitude schools in the Big 12 on the road," head coach Jaron Maestas said. "With a young team, I want them to be familiar with what that looks and feels like. This will be another opportunity for this young group to get better."
Last Time Out
The Cyclones competed at the K-State Invitational among the likes of Kansas State, Arkansas, South Florida and Wichita State. It was a successful weekend as the team finished with a 20-6 overall record, by far the best out of the five teams. Anna Supapitch Kuearum played in the ITA All-American Championships, eventually falling in the round of 32 after winning her first two matches.
"I was super proud of our team's performance this last weekend. We had a very young group that had four freshmen and two sophomores come away with a very promising weekend," Maestas said. "Anna (Supapitch Kuearum) also had a great start with a 2-1 campaign at ITA All-Americans and we'll look to build on it."
Jon Messick Invitational
The tournament will begin Friday, Sept. 27, and last through Sunday, Sept. 29 and feature both singles and doubles action.
