Cyclone Nation:
My drive into the Jacobson Building this morning was filled with excitement and appreciation. I have been looking forward to my first official day at Iowa State since accepting this job. I want to thank you for the incredible welcome my family and I have received. The outpouring of support and encouragement over the past few weeks has meant a great deal to us, and we could not be more excited to call Ames home.
Several things have stood out to me over the past few weeks, but most notably, Iowa State is a special place with great people who care deeply about this university.
I am humbled and honored to follow Jamie Pollard and build upon the strong foundation he and his team have established. We have outstanding coaches, elite student-athletes, dedicated staff, and the best fan base in the country. There is so much to be proud of, and I am excited about what we can accomplish together as one team.
My initial focus will be on listening, learning, and building meaningful relationships. I want to better understand our strengths, where we can improve, and how we can best position Iowa State for continued success in the changing landscape of college athletics.
As I mentioned during my introductory press conference, we are going to attack change! We will need to be creative in how we generate resources, thoughtful in how we invest them, and willing to challenge the status quo. I have shared with our staff that I am comfortable with effort mistakes as we try new ideas and look for ways to improve. At the same time, we cannot lose sight of what matters most — providing a championship environment for our student-athletes that emphasizes academic and athletic success while preparing them for life after sports.
I look forward to working alongside our coaches, staff, campus partners, alumni, letterwinners, donors, and fans as we build on what makes Iowa State special.
Sarah and I are extremely grateful for this opportunity, and our family looks forward to becoming involved in the Ames community.
Thank you again for the warm welcome and support. I look forward to meeting many of you in the weeks and months ahead, and I look forward to seeing you at Jack Trice Stadium tomorrow night!
Go Cyclones!
