FORT WORTH, Texas – For the third time this season, Iowa State (21-3, 8-3 Big 12) dropped a road contest as it fell at TCU (15-9, 5-6 Big 12) by a score of 62-55.
The Cyclones were held to their lowest point total in over a calendar year, as they committed the second-most turnovers in a game this season (17) and had their second-worst shooting night from distance (21.7%) all year.
ISU would battle back from an eight-point second-half deficit to earn a five-point, 55-50 lead, with 2:14 left. From there, though, the Horned Frogs closed the game on a 12-0 run to earn their second Top 10 win of the season.
Three Cyclones finished in double figures, with seniors Tamin Lipsey and Joshua Jefferson leading the way with 12 apiece. Milan Momcilovic (11) also finished in double figures with three made 3-pointers. Jefferson led the team in both rebounds (8) and assists (9) as he flirted with a triple-double in the loss.
TCU's Tanner Toolson and Micah Robinson tied for a game-high 17 points, with Toolson also leading the team in rebounding with nine. Xavier Edmonds had four blocks and two steals.
The Horned Frogs won the turnover, rebounding and second chance battles as they owned an edge over the Cyclones in all three categories. TCU also had 15 fast-break points and 12 steals.
How it Happened
Both teams spent the first several minutes of the game feeling each other out, as it was a free-flowing, back-and-forth start to the contest.
The Cyclones opened up a six-point lead by the ten-minute mark, only to see TCU whittle it down to one two minutes later. After re-extending its lead to nine, 28-19, the Horned Frogs rattled off a 10-0 run to take the lead with 1:45 left in the first half. A Jefferson layup at the horn would give ISU a one-point lead going into the break.
The Cyclones assisted on all 13 of their made field goals in the first half, but seven turnovers and 18 percent shooting from the floor kept TCU in it early.
The Horned Frogs took their first lead of the second half by the 16:30 mark. That would help the Frogs build momentum as the team eventually expanded its lead to as large as eight with 8:56 to go (49-41).
The Cyclones countered with a 14-1 run to the 2:38 mark as they took a five-point lead. TCU had one final response, though, closing the contest on a 12-0 run to secure its second Top-10 win of the season.
Key Performer
Joshua Jefferson did a bit of everything for Iowa State on Tuesday night. The big man had 12 points, his 30th-straight game in double figures, to go with eight boards and nine assists.
