AMES, Iowa – Iowa State director of cross country Jeremy Sudbury and women's head coach Laura Harmon announced the schedule for the 2026 season this morning. The Cyclones will host two home meets along with the 2026 NCAA Midwest Regional Championships.
"Home Sweet Home!" said Sudbury. "There is nothing like competing on our own home turf and getting a chance to showcase our beautiful cross country course to the nation and for the community to see how great our teams are. Both squads will benefit immensely from getting to stay home three times this fall to minimize wear and tear and to really be ready for the postseason."
The 2026 Midwest Regional marks the fourth time the Iowa State Cross Country Course has hosted the regional championship since the course's opening in 1995. The course previously hosted the Midwest Regional in 1997, 2013 and 2017 and has also hosted the NCAA Championship (2000) and Big 12 Championships (1996, 2008, 2018, 2023). Iowa State has hosted the annual Cyclone Preview in the preseason since 2023 and have added a second home meet to prepare for its postseason path to the NCAA Championships.
"I'm excited about the opportunities this schedule provides in my first season leading the Iowa State women's cross country program," added Harmon. "It strikes a great balance for our team, giving us opportunities early in the season to gain valuable racing experience and build confidence before competing against some of the nation's top NCAA Division I programs. Those high-level competitions will not only help prepare us for championship racing but also provide an exciting opportunity to showcase a women's team that is capable of competing on the national stage.
The 2026 Cyclones open preseason action with the fourth-annual Cyclone Preview on Sept. 4 before hosting the second home meet of the year on Sept. 18. Iowa State will make the trek to Madison for the Nuttycombe Invitational on Oct. 9. ISU opens the postseason with the Big 12 Championships on Oct. 31, hosted in Stillwater this year. The Midwest Regional is slated for Nov. 13 in Ames with the national championship to follow on Nov. 21 in Terre Haute, Ind.
