At point guard, he led ISU to the 1983-84 NIT, the 1984-85 NCAA Tournament and the 1986 NCAA Sweet Sixteen. The senior capped a brilliant collegiate career by helping the Cyclones to a school-record 22 wins and a second-place regular-season conference finish.
Following his stellar Cyclone career, Hornacek blossomed into a NBA star. He averaged double figures in scoring for four straight seasons in Phoenix and was named a NBA All-Star in 1991-92, averaging 20.1 points, 5.1 assists and 5 rebounds per game. Hornacek would gain stardom when he was traded to the Utah Jazz to team with John Stockton as one of the NBA's top guard tandems.
