Nate Carr is one of only three Cyclones in school history to win three wrestling individual national championships. Carr captured the 150-pound crown from 1981-83. He earned his first wrestling national title in 1981, leading ISU to a third-place finish along with Jim Gibbons and his title. As a junior, the 150-pounder captured his second championship in ISU's runner-up team finish in 1982 at the NCAA Championships held in Ames.
Carr led Iowa State to a third-place finish in 1983 with his final title. He closed his career with a 122-16-2 record and two Big Eight titles. Carr capped off his career winning a bronze medal in the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea, outscoring his opponents, 67-7.
