Bryan Petersen, a two-year starter at point guard for the Cyclones from 2008-09, is in his third season as a graduate assistant with the Iowa State men's basketball program.
A native of Clinton, Iowa, Petersen assists the Cyclone coaching staff with gameday scouting, film editing and player development. Four Cyclones (Craig Brackins, Marquis Gilstrap, Diante Garrett and Scott Christopherson) have earned all-Big 12 recognition in his first two seasons on the Iowa State coaching staff.
Petersen never missed a game and started 64 consecutive contests in his two-year career with the Cyclones. He drilled 97 career 3-pointers to rank among ISU's top-15 on the school's all-time 3-pointers made chart. As a senior in 2008-09, Petersen averaged 6.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists, as the Cyclones finished the season with a 15-17 mark.
He joined the Cyclones as a recruited walk-on in 2007-08, immediately finding a spot in the starting lineup. He was named to the Kansas City Star's All-Newcomer team, leading the squad with 48 3-pointers.
Petersen was a First-Team Division II Junior College All-American in his final season at Kirkwood Community College (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) prior to his ISU career. He led his team to a perfect conference mark (13-0) and a 26-6 overall record while averaging 12.3 points and 5.5 rebounds in 2006-07.
Petersen graduated from Iowa State with a degree in kinesiology in 2009. He is currently pursuing his master's in higher education.
