Preston Gordon is in his first season as assistant defensive line coach at Iowa State.
Gordon spent the 2025 season at Butler working with the defensive line and serving as the run game coordinator for the Bulldogs.
His stint at Butler came following two seasons at Purdue where he was an assistant defensive line coach. The Boilermakers’ defensive line was third in the Big Ten in sacks in 2023.
Gordon was a two-year graduate assistant at Illinois under head coach Bret Bielema and defensive coordinator Ryan Walters. The Illini boasted the No. 2 defense in college football in 2022.
The McKinney, Texas, native was a three-year starter on the defensive line at Rice (2014-17) before playing at Texas Tech (2018) for his final season.
Following his collegiate career, Gordon signed as an undrafted free agent with the Atlanta Falcons and the Frisco Fighters of the IFL.
Gordon earned his bachelor’s degree in social science from Rice in 2018. He holds master’s degrees from Texas Tech and Illinois.
