Greg Gardner completed his tenure as a graduate assistant for the Iowa State men's basketball program in April 2018. Gardner assisted the staff in video editing and player development.
Iowa State went 37-29 overall in his tenure, which inlcuded winning the Big 12 Tournament and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2016-17.
In Gardner's first season in 2016-17, the Cyclones finished 12-6 in Big 12 action, earning a tie for second place in the conference, which included a win against No. 3 Kansas. The win snapped the Jayhawks' 51-game win streak at Allen Fieldhouse. 
Four Cyclone players received multiple honors in 2016-17, including Monté Morris. Morris finished a stellar career at Iowa State, earning All-America honors and being named a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 First Team. Morris concluded one of the best point guard careers by breaking the NCAA career and single-season records for assist-to-turnover ratio.
The Cyclones were one of the nation's best offensive teams, finishing No. 11 in adjusted offensive efficiency and ranking 38th in scoring offense (80.8 points). The Cyclones were No. 15 in 3-point field goal percentage and No. 16 in 3-pointers made per game.
ISU also improved defensively, finishing No. 42 in defensive efficiency and ranking 29th in steals per game.
The 2017-18 Cyclones earned three top-25 wins, including an 18-point win against No. 8 Texas Tech that was the largest margin of victory against a top-10 school in school history. ISU also beat No. 15 West Virginia and No. 17 Oklahoma. Three Cyclones earned All-Big 12 recognition for the Cyclones in Gardner's second season.
Gardner, an Indianapolis, Indiana, native, joined the Cyclones after a standout playing career at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. He was recognized by the Gulf South Conference as one of the league's 10 best student-athletes for 2015-16, an honor based on athletic, academic and extracurricular achievement. A three-year starter for the Chargers, Gardner helped UAH to an 88-36 record during his career, which included three regular-season conference titles and a conference tournament championship. The Chargers also made three NCAA Division II Tournaments, advancing to the Sweet 16 twice.
In 2016, Gardner was named to the All-Gulf South Conference second team and was Alabama-Huntsville's Distinguished Male Athlete.
He has worked as an AAU coach for Pro One Select Basketball Club and the Huntsville Bulls, as well as interning in the Alabama-Huntsville Sports Information Office.
Gardner, a four-time member of the GSC academic honor roll, earned a bachelors degree in communication arts and a minor in business management. He attended high school at Bishop Chatard in Indianapolis.
