Battled back from multiple injuries to compete in the Iowa State starting lineup during his senior year… recorded a 7-10 record while going 2-5 in duals… on Senior Day, he beat Minnesota’s Ben Brancale of Minnesota by 8-0 major decision… won his first dual match of the season by pinning Pitt’s Mikey Racciato in 1:25… competed at the UNI Open, earning two wins by fall and one by major decision.
2015-16
Wrestled to an 11-8 record… went 5-4 in dual competition… earned Academic All-Big 12 first-team honors for the third consecutive season… suffered a season-ending shoulder injury to Oklahoma State’s Anthony Collica… went 3-1 at the Virginia Duals aiding in Iowa State’s championship bid… brought home eighth-place at the Midlands Championships… defeated Alex Kocer of South Dakota State by fall in 4:23 at the Midlands… began the season with a 4-2 upset victory over All-American Geo Martinez of Boise State… earned the Iowa State wrestling Outstanding Academic Award.
2014-15
Qualified for the NCAA Championships with a 26-7 overall record, earning the No. 9 seed... wrestled in all 13 duals, compiling an 11-2 record... suffered a 5-3 loss to Central Michigan's Colin Heffernan in the opening round at the NCAA Championships... dropped a 7-6 decision to Shayne Tucker of Oklahoma after dislocating his shoulder at the Big 12 Championships... closed out dual competition riding a six match winning streak that included two major-decisions... went 3-2 at the Southern Scuffle... Pinned Drexel's Geoffrey Verallis in 6:43 in the second round... defeated Jason Hunberger of George Mason by major-decision, 12-1 in the opening round... finished in third place at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational... garnered major-decision victories over Ezekiel Mamalis and Matthew Frisch... pulled off two emphatic victories with back-to-back sudden victory wins over Army's Andrew Mendel (dec. 6-5) and Rutgers' Ken Theobold (dec. 13-8)... Began the season 9-0 before suffering his first loss to Iowa's Brandon Sorenson by 7-6 decision... kicked off his 2014-15 campaign with a Kaye Young Open championship... garnered four falls and a technical-fall at the Kaye Young Open, including a pin over Blayne Briceno in 2:37 in the finals.
2013-14
With his back against the wall in need of a win to keep his season alive, upset top-seed Colin Johnston of West Virginia 9-4 in the opening round of the Big 12 Championship… had not won a match since Jan. 2 before knocking of Johnston to punch his ticket to the NCAA Championships… fell in the Big 12 title match to Anthony Collica of Oklahoma State 4-2… went 2-2 at the NCAA Championships… won his first match 5-4 over Nick Lester of Oklahoma, who had beaten him by a combined score of 23-0 in two regular season meetings… picked up a first period fall from neutral over No. 16 seed Joe Spisak of Virginia for his second NCAA win… took seventh at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational after going 5-2… beat 2013 All-American Ugi Khishignyam of The Citadel 5-4 in the wrestle backs at the Southern Scuffle… took second-place at the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open after going 4-1 with a pin and a major decision.Â
2012-13
Redshirted initial collegiate season, going 16-6 while competing unattached... Kaye Young Open champion, as he went 4-0 with three wins by fall en route to the title at 149 pounds… Grand View Open champion… posted a 5-0 record with two pins and a major decision… outscored his opponents 30-8 in his three wins by decision… went 4-2 at the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open en route to a fourth-place finish… went 3-2 at the UNI Open, picking up a first period pin over Minnesota’s Thomas Giaimo in the fifth-place match… competed in the 66 KG (145.5 pounds) weight class at the FILA Junior Nationals in Las Vegas, where he went 3-2 picking up two wins by fall… also competed at the 50th Midlands Championships.Â

Four-time state tournament place winner … state champion as a senior at 145 … runner-up at 145 as a junior … finished third at 140 as a sophomore and fourth at 130 as a freshman … compiled a career prep record of 158-8 … holds the record at Urbandale High School for most career wins (158), career falls (106) and career takedowns (433) … took second in Folkstyle and sixth in Freestyle at the 2011 Junior Nationals … wrestled at 152 and placed second in Freestyle at the FILA Cadet Nationals in 2011 … finished third at the NHSCA Sophomore Nationals in 2010 at 140 … ranked no. 2 at 145 by Intermat … coached by father and former Iowa State All-American Mike Moreno.

Born on March 28, 1994… son of Mike and Kristi Moreno… father, Mike, was an All-American at Iowa State, finishing seventh-place at the 1992 NCAA Championships... older brother Michael is also a member of the team... has two younger sister's: Lexi and Trina... psychology major.
