Michael Moreno is in his first year serving as the Graduate Assistant for the Iowa State wrestling team. He is currently working towards his Master’s Degree in Higher Education.
A year after completing one of the best careers in Iowa State history, Moreno has joined the Iowa State staff. As a collegian, he was a dominant middleweight wrestler for Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s team. He compiled a career record of 91-37, including a dual mark of 40-19. In 2014, he became the 38th two time All-American in ISU Wrestling history.
After earning All-American honors alongside teammate Kyven Gadson in 2013, the duo cemented themselves in Iowa State history. They became the first two athletes, along with their fathers Mike Moreno Sr. and the late Willie Gadson, to earn All-American honors as father and son in a Cardinal and Gold Singlet.
As a prep, Moreno proved himself worthy of joining the Iowa State wrestling team. At Urbandale high school, he was a four-time place-winner, wrestling to a 154-13 record. In his senior campaign, he reeled off an unblemished 43-0 season en route to a 171-pound title. He was dubbed a top-10 wrestler in the country at the 171-pound weight class and was slated as the No. 22 overall wrestler by Amateur Wrestling News.
Moreno graduated from Iowa State in 2014 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology. His younger brother, Gabe, is a member of the Iowa State wrestling squad.
