Jacob Studdard is in his first season at Iowa State as assistant special teams coach.
Studdard, a Southfield, Michigan, native, spent three seasons (2023-25) at his alma mater, Grand Valley State, where he coached running backs and served as special teams coordinator for the Lakers.
From 2023-25, Studdard helped the Lakers to a 29-7 record, including a pair of 11-2 seasons and a GLIAC conference championship in 2023.
GVSU ranked first in the conference in net punting in two of three seasons and in the top three in kickoff return average all three seasons.
Punter Trace Hrgich was a second-team All-American in 2025, while twice earning first-team All-GLIAC honors.
Studdard also spent time coaching at Hope College and Findlay after serving as a defensive graduate assistant at Grand Valley State.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from GVSU in communication in 2018 and a master’s degree in communication in 2022.
Studdard was a cornerback for the Lakers, serving as team captain from 2016-18 and earning first-team all-conference honors in 2018.
