Mike Montgomery is in his first season serving as director of sports medicine for the Iowa State football program.
Montgomery, an Iowa State graduate, spent the last five seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans of the National Basketball Association.
From 2021-23, Montgomery also served as the head athletic trainer for the NBA Summer League where he oversaw all medical operations, emergency action planning, staff coordination and athlete care.
Montgomery worked with the Cyclone football team from 2018-20 as an assistant director, helping Iowa State to a pair of bowl games.
He was a seasonal assistant athletic trainer for the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL following his graduation from ISU.
Montgomery is board certified for athletic training (ATC). He is a NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) and Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES). He is also an American Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR/AED/First Aid.
The Carroll, Iowa, native earned his bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Iowa State in 2016. He received his master’s degree in sport performance and injury prevention from California University of Pennsylvania in 2017.
Montgomery is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) and Mid-America Athletic Trainers’ Association (MAATA).
