Jon Reader enters his second year with the Iowa State wrestling program as a volunteer assistant coach.
The Davison, Mich. native is one of Iowa State wrestling's all-time greats. While in a Cyclone singlet, Reader was a three-time All-American ('08,'09 and '11) and 2011 NCAA champion at 174 pounds.
During Reader's 2010-11 championship run, he went a perfect 39-0 and held the No. 1 ranking at 174 pounds in every major poll for the entire season. Reader impressively won 27 of his 39 matches by bonus point margins.
He compiled a career record of 124-23, good for the 17th best win percentage all-time in the Iowa State wrestling 100 win club. Reader's 124 career victories are tied for eighth all-time in Cyclone wrestling history with four-time All-American Joe Gibbons ('82-'86).
Reader was a member of the 2012 University World Team, representing the U.S. at the 2012 University World Championships in Kuortane, Finland. . Reader also took home the gold medal at the 2012 Hari Ram Grand Prix in New Dehli, India competing at 84 kg / 185 pounds.
Reader is currently training for a spot on the 2016 U.S. Olympic wrestling team.
He graduated from Iowa State with a degree in kinesiology in 2011.
