LUBBOCK, Texas (Ticker) -- Freshman Shaud Williams outshined Iowa State's Darren Davis by rushing for 148 yards and two touchdowns as Texas Tech handed the Cyclones their third straight loss, 28-16, in a Big 12 Conference matchup.
Four weeks after setting the school freshman rushing record with 230 yards against Colorado, Williams carried 21 times and scored on runs of nine yards in the first quarter and 47 yards midway through the fourth.
One play after the Red Raiders (5-4, 4-2 Big 12 South) recovered an Iowa State fumble, Williams went in from the 9 to put Texas Tech ahead for good, 7-6.
Less than four minutes later, quarterback Rob Peters scored on a one-yard keeper to make it 14-6. He hit Darrell Jones with a 26-yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter, but Iowa State (4-5, 1-5) climbed within 21-9 on Mike McKnight's 40-yard field goal on the final play of the half.
Davis, who entered as the nation's fifth-leading rusher, was held to 96 yards on 26 attempts but scored on a seven-yard run midway through the third quarter to lift the Cyclones within 21-16.
But Williams sealed the Red Raiders' fourth win in as many meetings with Iowa State with his 47-yard scamper in the final period.
Sage Rosenfels completed 14-of-28 passes for 169 yards and an interception for the Cyclones, who have lost five of six since opening the season with three wins.
