AMES, Iowa (AP) - Kantrail Horton and three other Cyclones scored 12 points apiece as Iowa State beat Wisconsin-Milwaukee 78-65 Wednesday night.
Iowa State (6-2) never trailed after Horton's layup put the Cyclones ahead 23-22 with almost five minutes left in the first half. The basket came during a 12-3 run that saw the Cyclones take a 33-25 lead at halftime.
Wisconsin-Milwaukee (4-3)failed to scored in the last 2:52 of the half and had just one field goal, a 3-pointer by Clay Tucker, in the last 6:36 of the half.
The Panthers went 2:11 into the second half without a basket as Iowa State built its lead to 38-25. The Cyclones led by as many as 17 points in the second half.
Wisconsin-Milwakee, which got 20 points each from Tucker and Chad Angeli, scored six unanswered points to chop the lead to 69-58 with 2:29 left but the Panthers got no closer.
Michael Nurse, who scored 11 points for Iowa State, hit a 3-pointer with 1:41 left to put Iowa State ahead 72-58.
Jamaal Tinsley, Martin Rancik and Stevie Johnson also had 12 each for Iowa State.
Marcus Fizer, the Cyclones' leading scorer with a 21.9-point average, failed to score in double figures for the first time in 25 games, finishing with eight points.
