ANKENY, Iowa - The Iowa State volleyball team lost in a hard fought five-set match to Drake University, Monday night in the Ankeny High School gym. ISU's Stacy Nicks and Sara Stribe sets personal best in kills (26) and assists (65), respectively, in the nonconference matchup. But the Cyclones were unable to pull out a victory as they fall to 2-16 overall and remain at 0-9 in Big 12 action. With the win Drake improves its season mark to 4-16.
Nicks led all players with her 26 kills and .489 hitting percentage. The senior middle blocker had 45 attacks and registered only four errors. She also got things done at the net, tallying five blocks including two solo stops.
For one of the few times this season Nicks was not the leading blocker for the Cyclones. Freshman Julie Mitchell set a personal best of her own as she tallied a team season-best 10 blocks, three of those going down as solo stops. The Champlin, Minn, native also added eight kills on the night.
ISU's Sarah Rollman had a strong performance for the Cyclones, as she ended the match with 15 kills and 13 digs. Rollman has notched 30 kills in the last two matches for ISU. Her effort also marked the second time this season that she has recorded double digit kills and digs.
Leading the charge all night for Iowa State was Stribe, who registered a personal best 65 assists against the Bulldogs. The sophomore's effort tonight brings her two-year career total to 1,026, which places her sixth on the ISU all-time career assists rankings.
The Cyclones will resume Big 12 action Wednesday as they host Texas Tech. The Cyclone-Red Raider matchup will begin at 7 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum.
