AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State volleyball team lost in three sets to Texas Tech, 15-7, 15-7 and 15-10, Wednesday night in Hilton Coliseum. Sarah Rollman led the Cyclones with 10 kills and six digs, but the team falls to 2-17 overall and 0-10 in conference play. The victory boosts Texas Tech's overall record to 17-4 and moves its conference mark to 6-4.
"We set a goal tonight of getting to 10 points before they got 15 and we did that in the last set," ISU head coach Linda Grensing said. "Whenever we face one of the upper level teams in the conference that is always one of our goals. I think if we accomplish that mark, then we are playing at a pretty good level. Our main problem just continues to be consistency, but I feel like we are making good progress in the right direction. I also thought Lindsey Chapman did a great job of stepping in at the last minute to replace Sara Stribe at setter."
Chapman made her third career start this season, while subbing for the injured Stribe. Chapman ended the night with 25 assists and one service ace.
Along with Rollman junior redshirt Nanette Allen helped the Cyclones cause adding eight kills and 11 digs in the contest. Allen hit well from the floor, committing only four errors in 19 total attacks, for a hitting percentage of .211.
Stacy Nicks, the lone senior of the squad, led the Cyclones defensively with four blocks, including two solo stops. It was the 11th time this season that Nicks has led ISU in total blocks. Her effort along with freshman Julie Mitchell's three blocks, helped ISU to a 7-6 edge in total team blocks. Nicks, a native of Spencer, Iowa, also tallied six kills on the night.
The Iowa State Volleyball squad continues conference action this Saturday as they travel to Manhattan, Kan., to face the Wildcats. First serve between ISU and KSU will be at 1 p.m. in Ahearn Fieldhouse.
