MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Iowa State volleyball team lost in three sets to Kansas State, 15-2, 15-6 and 15-1, Saturday afternoon in Ahearn Fieldhouse. The Wildcats were tough defensively, holding ISU's top offensive threat in Stacy Nicks to seven kills. The loss moves ISU to 2-18 overall and 0-11 in Big 12 action.
Kansas State had two players tally double digit kills in Cari Jensen (10) and Liz Wegner (18) to help improve its overall mark to 14-5 and its conference record to 8-3.
Along with her seven kills Nicks led ISU with a hitting percentage of .357. The senior committed only two hitting errors out of 14 attacks.
Leading ISU defensively was freshman middle blocker, Julie Mitchell. With her four total blocks, including two solo stops, Mitchell helped the Cyclones to a 7-6 edge in team blocks. The Cyclones have outblocked 13 of their opponents this season, but hold a 2-11 record when doing so. Mitchell's effort today marked the 10th time this season that she has led the Cyclones in blocks. The Champlin, Minn. native also added four kills at a .200 clip on the afternoon.
Iowa State will be back on the court Wednesday, to face Texas at home in Hilton Coliseum. First serve will be at 7 p.m.
