AMES, Iowa -- Fourteen Iowa State football players are among those student-athletes honored by their selection to the Big 12 Conference Academic all-Big 12 team Wednesday. Nine Cyclones earned first-team academic all-conference honors by attaining at least a 3.2 grade-point average. Second-team selections earned at least a 3.0 grade-point average.
Iowa State quarterback Sage Rosenfels leads the Cyclone first-team selections. Rosenfels, a senior from Maquoketa is a marketing major. The other first team honorees were free safety Dustin Avey of Ames, a graduate student in business; redshirt freshman defensive lineman Jordan Carstens of Bagley (agricultural business), junior offensive lineman Scott Davis of Coral Springs, Fla. (statistics), senior defensive back Nick Hein of Monticello (agricultural business), junior placekicker Mike McKnight of Fort Dodge (exercise and sports science), junior safety Adam Runk of Stillwater, Minn. (management information systems), senior defensive back Ryan Sloth of Belmond (exercise and sports science) and senior linebacker Eric Weiford of Oelwein (biology).
Second-team Cyclones were senior offensive lineman Ben Bruns of Denver (construction engineering), junior wide receiver Craig Campbell of Santa Fe Springs, Calif. (exercise and sports science), redshirt freshman wide receiver Lane Danielson of Grundy Center (liberal arts and sciences), senior offensive lineman Marcel Howard of Davenport (biology) and redshirt freshman offensive lineman Bob Montgomery of Lincoln, Neb. (biology).
