DALLAS - Iowa State senior point guard Jamaal Tinsley captured the clean sweep of preseason Big 12 honors by earning the league's preseason player of the award by the Big 12 media. Tinsley also won preseason player of the year honors by the Big 12 coaches.
Tinsley, a preseason All-American, was a first-team all-Big 12 selection last season while helping ISU win the Big 12 regular-season and conference tournament championships. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native averaged 11.0 ppg and broke ISU single-season school records in both assists (244) and steals (98).
As a team, the Cyclones were picked to finish fifth in the Big 12, garnering 190 votes. The Big 12 coaches picked Iowa State fourth in their preseason poll. The Cyclones open up exhibition play Nov. 8 with a 7 p.m. contest against Next Level Sports in Hilton Coliseum.
