WACO, Texas - The Iowa State softball team fell to Baylor, 4-3 in the Cyclones Big 12 opener today in Waco, Texas. Cyclone senior Jessica Polo went 2-of-3 with two RBI.
Iowa State jumped out to a early 1-0 lead in the second inning. Polo led off the inning with a triple to right center. Polo scored on a Lauren Cathey RBI sacrifice fly. The Bears got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Sarah Caudle walked and then scored on a RBI double by Kelly Flemming. The Cyclones added two more runs in the sixth when Polo doubled to bring in Blackmon and Michelle Junod to make it, 3-1. Baylor answered back scoring one run in the bottom of the sixth when Caudled scored on a wild pitch making it, 3-2. The Bears added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh. Kristen Lancaster singled to right field to bring in Sarah Sharp and Vanessa VandeBurgt to win the game, 4-3. Kristin Ferguson (2-2) took the loss for the Cyclones, allowing three runs on four hits and fanning 1.
Iowa State, 11-9 overall and 0-1 in the Big 12 Conference, continues play tomorrow when they take on Baylor at 1 p.m.
