AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State softball program has added North Texas transfer Taylor Platt to the team, head coach Jamie Pinkerton announced.
Platt, a to-be junior out of Argyle, Texas, spent her first two collegiate seasons with the Mean Green, starting 76 contests and appearing in 93. She owns a .290 career batting average with 56 hits and 42 runs scored.
"Taylor is a great addition to our program," said Pinkerton. "She is an excellent defender in the outfield with a plus arm, has solid speed and is a much-needed left-handed bat that is a triple threat at the plate. With what we're losing in the outfield, she'll come in and compete for a role immediately."
Platt brings a swath of experience in the outfield, having seen time at all three spots during her time in Denton. As a freshman, Platt mainly saw time in left field before taking over the starting center field spot as a sophomore.
Platt has been solid defensively, committing just two errors in her 136 chances, good enough for a .986 fielding percentage. She also showcased versatility in the batting order, as she was a table setter as a freshman, turning over the lineup in the nine hole before batting leadoff or second as a sophomore.
At the plate, Platt slashed .290/.379/.342 with seven career extra-base hits. She led North Texas in stolen bases this past season and was third on the team in swiped bags as a freshman.
Coming out of Argyle High School, Platt was a four-year letterwinner and helped the Eagles advance to the 4A regional finals both in 2021 and 2022. Heading into her freshman season at UNT, Platt was named to the Preseason D100 Freshman Watch List and the Preseason Softball American Freshman Watch List.
