AMES, Iowa - Thomas Watkins has decided to transfer from Iowa State at the end of the Spring semester to a program where he can have more playing time, head men's basketball coach Larry Eustachy announced Monday.
"We fully understand Thomas' wish to find a situation where he can make more contributions during game situations," Eustachy said. "Thomas played a significant role in this year's success as a member of our scout team, and we thank him for all his contributions. We wish him the best of luck and will do everything we can to help him in the future."
The Phoenix, Ariz., native played in six games during the 1999-2000 season, logging 25 minutes. The junior guard battled injuries throughout the season. He was one of six players given the "Mr. Hustle Award" at the team's awards banquet Saturday.
"I will not forget my experiences at Iowa State," Watkins said. "I have had a fun time with a great team and coaches. I would like to thank Coach Eustachy and his staff for giving me a chance to play at Iowa State. They helped me a great deal on and off the court."
