AMES, Iowa - The Big 12 offices have announced that four Iowa State volleyball players were named to the 2001 academic all-conference list. Dana Koziol, Renae Pruess and Steph Suntken earned first team recognition, while Sara Stribe was a second team honoree.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 grade point average or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.2 or better grade point average, while the second team are those who have a 3.0 to 3.19 GPA.
All four student-athletes have seen major playing time for ISU this season, with Koziol, Suntken and Stribe having appeared in all 78 games. Koziol a native of Norfolk, Neb., has collected 137 digs this year playing primarily as a defensive specialist. She is one of the Cyclones top servers, owning 18 service aces. Pruess has started in 14 matches and is fifth on the squad with a career season high 131 kills. The Clarence native has notched two double-doubles this season, including a 17 kill and 16 dig performance vs. Morehead State.
Suntken has been one of Iowa State's most consistent players on the court, leading the team with a .188 hitting percentage. The Indianola native has registered 133 kills, 122 digs and is second on the team with 83 blocks this year.
Stribe is making her second appearance on the academic all-Big 12 team. She is the team leader in assists with 789 to her credit. The Carroll native is sixth on the ISU career assists charts with 1,815 assists.
