AMES, Iowa - Iowa State senior center Paul Shirley, who leads the Cyclones in rebounding at 6.9 rpg, earned Verizon Second-Team Academic All-America honors, announced today by Verizon and CoSIDA.
Shirley, a native of Meriden, Kan., is a four-time member of the Big 12 academic team and earned his second consecutive Verizon District VII Academic All-America honor this season. Shirley, who had a 3.67 GPA in mechanical engineering, earned honorable mention all-Big 12 honors for the Cyclones this season after starting all 30 games and helping ISU win its second straight Big 12 Conference title. He currently averages 10.0 ppg.
