AMES, Iowa. - The Iowa State volleyball team fell in three games to No. 6 Nebraska on Saturday afternoon in Hilton Coliseum. Freshman Amanda Craig paced the Cyclones with 10 kills and 11 digs for her sixth career double-double. The loss moves the Cyclones overall recorded to 9-10 and 0-8 in league play. Laura Pilakowski pounded 13 kills on the day to help the Cornhuskers improve to 15-1 overall and to 7-0 in Big 12 action. Nebraska All-American Greichaly Cepero had 45 assists and 14 digs on the day.
The Cornhuskers dominated the match offensively and defensively, hitting .263 from the floor and collecting 57 digs. Nebraska committed just 32 hitting errors on 137 attacks. The Cyclones were limited to 31 kills and a .076 hitting percentage.
ISU's Renae Pruess had five kills and five digs and senior Sara Stribe had two kills, 11 digs and 22 assists to help the Cyclone cause on the afternoon. Stribe now has 2,503 assists, which places her third on ISU's all-time career list.
The first game was all Nebraska as it hit .289 from the floor, while collecting 17 kills and just six hitting errors. ISU tallied 38 attempts but was able to register just nine kills in a 30-19 opening-game loss.
The Cyclones played more competitively in game two with 11 kills and just five errors, but the Cornhuskers were on all cylinders offensively, hitting .405 from the floor with 19 kills. NU won game two, 30-20.
In game three, the Cyclones pounded 11 kills to Nebraska's 21 and hit .091 to NU's .161 as Nebraska won the game, 30-24, and the match, 3-0.
Freshman Katie Kruenegel and Pruess had three block-assists each while Kruenegel also had three kills and four digs to help the Cyclone effort.
"I thought we were a little more prepared with our offense today than we were against Kansas," Head Coach Linda Crum said. "I really felt as the game went on we started competing and I'm proud of some of the things the kids did in figuring out how to compete. Obviously, Nebraska is a better team than we are right now. But we're making progress and moving in the right direction."
Iowa State will take a small break from Big 12 action when they play host to No. 10 Northern Iowa on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Hilton Coliseum. First serve will be at 7 p.m.
