AMES, Iowa - Three Iowa State football players have been named to the Verizon Academic-All America District VII Team. Defensive tackle Jordan Carstens earned first-team defense honors for the second consecutive year. Jack Whitver (first-team offense) and Bob Montgomery (second-team offense) make their first appearance on the list.
Carstens, a junior majoring in agricultural business, is one of ISU's four team captains this fall. Carstens has 76 tackles this season, leading Cyclone defensive linemen, including nine for loss and five sacks.
Montgomery, a junior majoring in exercise and sport science, has been a stalwart on the Cyclone offensive line the past two seasons. He has started 23 consecutive games on the line, at a multitude of positions.
Whitver graduated with a degree in exercise and sport science in three years, and is in his first semester of graduate work towards an MBA. He has been a solid possession receiver this fall, catching 37 passes for 492 yards. Whitver is a favorite target of Seneca Wallace in third-down situations, converting over 80 percent of his third-down catches into first downs.
