MANHATTAN, Kan. - Mandi Harms had a team-high 10 kills and sophomore Brittany Dalager added six kills and 16 digs, but it wasn't enough as Iowa State fell to Kansas State in three games (3-0) in Saturday night volleyball action in Manhattan, Kan. With her 10 kills, Harms has extended her double-digit kill totals to five games. Renae Pruess added seven kills for the Cyclone cause.
The loss moves the Cyclones overall record to 10-15 and 1-12 in league play. Cari Jensen pounded 14 kills on the night to help the Wildcats improve to 15-6 and 11-2 in Big 12 play.
KSU out hit the Cyclones .348 to .048. KSU committed just 10 hitting errors on 112 attacks, while the Cyclones had 29 kills on 126 attacks.
Game one was all Kansas State as the Cyclones were held to only nine kills and -.025 hitting percentage from the floor. KSU rattled off four straight points to have an early 4-1 lead before Iowa State scored its second point of a Mandi Harms kill. The Cyclones wouldn't have much luck the rest of the game as the Wildcats went on a 9-0 run late in the game to take a 25-10 lead. Kansas State hit a sizzling .412 from the floor and had 15 kills to win game one, 30-12. Harms, Renae Pruess and Katie Kruenegel had two kills each, while Brittany Dalager had eight kills for the Cyclones.
In game two, the Cyclones had more offensive power than in game one, but still struggled offensively and defensively. Kansas State had 14 kills to Iowa State's nine and 24 digs to ISU's 15. The Wildcats hit .231 from the floor, while holding ISU to .023. Harms again led the way for the Cyclones, with five kills, while Pruess and Dalager added two. Iowa State held a slim 13-11 lead before KSU scored the next five points. The Wildcats went on to win game two, 30-19, and headed into the lockerroom up two games to none.
Game three was all Kansas State as the Wildcats built a 22-10 lead on a 9-0 run and held the Cyclones to 11 kills while pounding 20 kills themselves. Iowa State hit .143 from the floor, its highest of the night. But Kansas State hit .410 from the floor and had 20 kills on 49 attempts. Iowa State was also outdug as KSU had 24 digs to Iowa State's 12. Pruess, Harms and Dalager again led the way for the Cyclones in game three, with three kills each. Kansas State won game three, 30-20, and the match, 3-0.
