CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) - Tim Barnes overcame a bout with the flu to score a career-high 19 points as Iowa State beat Northern Iowa 71-64 Sunday.
The win give's Iowa State a sweep of its three intrastate opponents for the first time since the 1994-95 season.
Barnes was 7-of-15 from the field, including five 3-pointers.
Jackson Vroman scored 17 points and Jake Sullivan added 13 for Iowa State.
Northern Iowa (3-6) was led by David Gruber's 21 points. The Panthers have now lost six of their last seven games.
Iowa State (9-1) never trailed.
The Cyclones opened the game with a 13-2 run and its lead was never less than four points the rest of the night.
Iowa State, which led 37-30 at halftime, held a 54-49 advantage with more than 10 minutes to play.
A Ben Jacobson basket at 7:24 cut the lead to 61-54, but the Cyclones went on a 13-5 run to open up a 67-54 lead with 5:14 remaining.
Northern Iowa hit just 9-of-20 shots in the second half, shooting 44 percent for the game.
ISU ended the game with 56 percent shooting.
