AMES, Iowa (AP) - Chris Alexander scored 25 points, 18 in the second half, and grabbed eight rebounds in his first extensive action of the season Tuesday to lead Iowa State to a 90-46 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Alexander, who sat out the first semester with personal problems, was eight of nine from the field and nine of 12 at the free throw line in 22 minutes for Iowa State (10-1). Alexander joined the team for the Drake game on Dec. 22 and scored two points. He did not play in Sunday night's 71-64 victory over Northern Iowa.
Jake Sullivan added 19 points and Jackson Vroman scored 18 points and had 16 rebounds as Iowa State won its 12th New Year's Eve game in 15 starts.
Sullivan became the 22nd Cyclone to score 1,000 career points when he hit a 3-point basket three minutes into the second half, staking the Cyclones to a 51-22 advantage. Sullivan hit another 3-pointer at the 15:43 mark and now has 1,005 career points to rank 21st on the all-time scoring list.
Pine Bluff (0-10) shot just 24 percent for the game. The Cyclones outrebounded Pine Bluff 64-21, as Iowa State came within four of their all time rebound record of 68 against St. Cloud State on Nov. 30, 1979. Adam Haluska scored 10 points and had 11 rebounds for the Cyclones.
The Golden Lions, led by Melvin Bell with 11 points and Chris Parker with 10, were playing their ninth road game of the year.
Sullivan and Vroman scored 13 points each to lead Iowa State to a 46-15 halftime lead. The Cyclones used a 11-2 run to grab a 13-4 lead six minutes into the game and later outscored the Golden Lions 15-1 to go ahead 33-9.
