AMES, Iowa - Iowa State football strength coach Matt McGettigan has been named strength and conditioning coach of the year by the Professional Football Strength and Conditioning Coaches Society. McGettigan will be presented with the award at the coaches annual banquet held in Indianapolis, Ind., Friday, March 1.
"Coach McGettigan is one of the top strength and conditioning coaches in the country and this award just underscores what he has accomplished here at Iowa State," ISU head coach Dan McCarney said. "He is one of the most respected coaches on our staff and our success the past few seasons is directly related to his talents as a coach. Matt has been with us from the beginning and his dedication to this program is unparalleled."
McGettigan came to Iowa State with coach McCarney in 1994 after serving as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Notre Dame since 1990. He is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association. In January 1989, McGettigan received his certification as a strength and conditioning specialist.
